The values that will be part of the new you
INTEGRITY: Rather than working on buildings like the masons of old, today’s Freemasons focus on building themselves as people of integrity, and membership provides the structure to help achieve that goal.
FRIENDSHIP: One of the oldest social organisations in the world, Freemasonry is not defined by an ideology. It is open to people from all religions and political persuasions, and provides the common foundation for friendships between members, many of which will last for life.
RESPECT: With a membership of more than 200,000 people drawn from communities across the UK, Freemasonry brings people together irrespective of their race, religion or any other perceived differences that can divide us as a society.
CHARITY: Kindness and charitable giving are deeply ingrained within the principles of Freemasonry. The organisation provides a support structure that helps members make positive contributions to communities and worthwhile causes through fundraising events or volunteer work.

Step Two
Lodge Introduction – Having been introduced to Devon Lodge, you and your Partner will then be invited to a meeting with the Lodge Representatives. They will explain the joining procedure further and to clarify the obligations of membership in terms of fees and attendance. The meeting will also provide an opportunity for you and your Partner to clarify any outstanding issues or questions you may have.
Step Three
Application Form – Filling in the application form is simple and made easier by the assistance of the Lodge Representative who will be on hand to provide advice and support throughout the joining procedure and beyond whenever required.

The Interview – You will then be requested to attend an interview chaired by senior members of the Lodge. Don’t be worried as the members of the panel only want to find out more about you and your reasons for joining. The meeting will conducted with care and consideration by experienced Freemasons – some of whom you may know already – who have all undergone the same process.
Step Five
The Proposal – Your application to join is now gathering momentum and so the next thing that will happen is a Lodge member will formally to propose you as an Initiate at the next Lodge Meeting. This tradition ensures that all the members are informed of your application to be a Freemason and is no different to the procedure one would undergo when joining any other institution.
Step Six
The Ballot – The members will next give their assent to your application by way of a traditional ballot. This may seem slightly outdated and very formal but it is traditions such as this that makes membership of Freemasonry such an interesting experience. You will then be advised of the date of your Initiation and how to prepare yourself for it.
Step Seven
Your Initiation – The night you are Initiated is very special and you will treasure the memory of this totally unforgettable and very enjoyable evening. Do not worry – you won’t be asked to do or say anything that is contrary to your civil, moral or religious duties.
